Lebanon Playing Cards
Playing cards have long been part of Lebanese culture and reflect the social nature and warm traditions of the community.
Randy Haddad captured these subtle moments of life in Lebanon, commemorating the traditional food it offers, the people preparing it, and the shared fortune-telling stories often told by grandmothers, while reading a dried up cup of coffee after a family meal.
Challenging the often-inaccurate stereotypes of what the Middle East looks like in the eyes of those abroad, Randy sought to capture Lebanon’s beauty in the vivid greens of its mountains, the calming blues of its sea, and the warmth of its rustic, old towns.
Sharing the homesickness, my cover illustration depicts the rush of memories and warmth you get flying over Beirut as you're about to land. Memories of the sea in every season, weekly family gatherings, homemade culinary feasts, orange blossom and rosewater scents, all shaping the feeling of home.
